OÙ - WHERE Le Circuit des Arts aura lieu dans les ateliers des artistes, dans les galeries d'art ou certains espaces publics dont des cafés dans le quartier. / The Art Hop venue will take place in the Artist’s studios, workshops and galleries, or one of the designated shared spaces around the neighborhood.

POURQUOI - WHY "L'art nourrit l'âme, les aliments nourrissent le corps". Chaque artiste participant sera encouragé à faire un don au Dépôt Alimentaire de Notre-Dame-de-Grâce en tant que partie de leur frais de participation. / "Food feeds the body, art feeds the soul", and part of the artists participation fee will be donated to the NDG Food Depot.
Une brève histoire du Circuit des Arts
Lorsque Michael Clague habitait dans un minuscule appartement sur l’avenue Prud’Homme à Notre-Dame-de-Grâce dans les années 1980, il avait l'habitude de suspendre des bannières et des enseignes sur son balcon pour faire la promotion de ses propres ventes d'oeuvres d’art. Il recevait beaucoup de visiteurs et vendait ses tableaux pendant l'été. Quand il a essayé de recréer l’expérience dans son appartement actuel, les gens semblaient penser qu'il vendait son canapé ou louait son appartement, alors il a changé de tactique. Il a contacté la communauté artistique de NDG par courriel et facebook, encourageant d’autres artistes à participer en ouvrant leurs portes aux visiteurs pendant deux fins de semaine en septembre 2017. La première à répondre à été l’organisatrice du Conseil communautaire de Notre-Dame-de-grâce, Sharon Sweeney. Elle a rapidement reconnu l'importance d'un tel événement et a aidé Michael à le développer.
"Ma devise est que la nourriture nourrit le corps, et l'art nourrit l'âme", dit Clague. C’est la raison pour laquelle le Circuit des Arts 2017 a demandé aux artistes participants de donner une partie de leurs profits au dépôt alimentaire de NDG. "C'est ma façon de redonner à la communauté dans laquelle je vis, car j'ai souvent utilisé leurs services par le passé."
Clague a assuré un suivi avec les participants de l’année dernière, à la recherche de commentaires afin d’améliorer l’événement. Les artistes Laurence Dea Dionne et Helene Mayer ont formé le comité d’organisation de 2018 avec Clague et les trois ont promis de faire de l’événement une plus grande réussite.
A Brief History of the NDG Art Hop
When Michael Clague lived in a tiny 1 ½ apartment on Prud’Homme ave in NDG in the 1980s, he used to hang banners and signs from his balcony to advertise his own private art sales. He received many visitors and as a result, sold quite a few paintings during the summer months. When he tried to do this in his current living space, people seemed to think he was selling his couch or renting his apartment, so he modified his tactics. He reached out to the NDG artistic community via emails and Facebook, and asked artists to open their doors to visitors during two weekends in September 2017. The first to respond was the NDG Community Council’s Community Organizer, Sharon Sweeney. She was quick to recognize the importance of such an event and helped Michael develop it. The Art Hop 2017 asked that participating artists donate part of their proceeds to the NDG Food Depot.
“This is my way of giving back to the community I live in, as I have often used their services in the past." "My motto is that food feeds the body, and art feeds the soul” says Clague.
Clague followed up with last year’s participants looking for feedback and how to improve the event. Artists Laurence Dea Dionne and Helene Mayer stepped up to form the 2018 organizing committee with Clague and the three have promised to make this year’s event a bigger success.
